Architecture, Tradition and History
As well as providing the services listed on the front page St Augustine’s is well worth a visit for its historic and architectural interest, particularly a beautiful carved reredos, which has been in the church since the beginning of the last century. The church also contains Grove Park’s war memorials in the Lady Chapel as well as some wonderful stained glass windows.
St Augustine’s has a long standing musical tradition. We are fortunate to have a fine organ and we have a choir for Sunday worship. Regular musical concerts take place in the church featuring a wide range of musical styles. Many famous artists have appeared here. Details of forthcoming musical events will posted on this site from time to time.
A Place of Worship and Prayer
10.00 am Every Sunday FAMILY EUCHARIST
10.00 am Wednesdays Holy Communion
9.30 am Saturdays Holy Communion
Our Sunday Family Eucharist is designed to meet the needs of all ages in worship. We aim for it to be informal enough for children to feel welcome and to be able to take part in our worship. We also aim for it to be traditional enough for it to meet the needs of the older members of our community.
We hope you will find us a warm, welcoming and happy community, of which you will quickly feel a valued member.
You may be interested to know that Archbishop Desmond Tutu ministered here between 1970 and 1974.
A Place of Learning
We regularly hold courses, study groups and workshops on various aspects of the Christian faith, as well as more general things such as relaxation classes.
A Place of Community
Our church halls are an important meeting place in the community for groups such as Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, a Day Nursery, Dance Classes, an Over 60’s Club, Badminton Club, Weight Watchers Club and the Gateway Club for people with learning difficulties. Do contact us if you want more information about any of these.
