Friends of St. Augustine’s - Report for September ‘10

Dear friends,

Thanks to all those who helped at the St. Augustine’s Bar-B-Q and of course all those who attended.  This was a chance to use the church gardens; fortunately, the weather was favourable so the chicken legs, sausages, koftas and jacket potatoes were enjoyed in comfort.

The garden party hosted by Mick and Babs Florence will be on the 4th September at 39 Farmcote Road from 2 – 5 p.m. If you have not been to one of these before, do come along to enjoy tea and cakes and convivial company.  Here’s hoping the weather will be kind.  There will be items to purchase and a raffle; come and spend.

The annual Harvest Supper will take place on Saturday 2nd October.  This will include a fish and chip supper and entertainment presented by St. Augustiners, unless anyone has a better idea.  If you would like to take part in the entertainment, music, dance, sketches, recitations etc. all are welcome.  Come along and tread the boards for a few minutes – this is not the X factor so don’t be afraid (well not much).

It will not be long until the Christmas Fair when we will need items for sale and those who can sell them; make sure this date is highlighted in your diaries.  This is one of our major fund raising events; £2000 + is the aim.

Be certain to inform friends, family and neighbours of the following events, it is gratifying for the organisers to have participants.

Events for your diaries.

  1. Garden Party Mick and Babs – Saturday 4th September
  2. Harvest Supper -  Saturday 2nd October
  3. Harvest Festival - Sunday 3rd October
  4. Christmas Fair -  Saturday 27th November

Should anyone have any ideas for a fund raising or a social event see Brian Stocks or John Davis, especially if you can offer to organise it.   Some suggestions include afternoon tea in our garden and a display of artwork and handicrafts by church members; all interested parties please come forward.
